New forum/home page host

Post by Renegadex » Mon Oct 08, 2007 12:03 am

I've moved the forums to haleyshothouse.com. You should get a redirect on the old web site. If possible, you should update your bookmarks.
The forums should seem a lot faster! We're also on a new host, which is better in almost every way (CPU power, bandwidth, etc.) than the old one.

I took the time to add on some PHPBB mods:
  • spambot protection (which means I'll be allowing new users in more frequently than before).
  • "QuickReply" is also now available! It shows up when you read a forum thread.

If you have trouble with the new server and configuration -- or would like to see another PHPBB mod, or two, just let me know. :) Enjoy!

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm impressed, too...this means we can stretch the forum's features a bit further. :)

Seriously, folks -- hit up http://www.phpbb.com and check out the mods. If you see something you think would be fun to use around here, post it!

I'm also open to tweaking something new for our own board...this system isn't that complicated.

This mod depends on people actually inputting correct birthday info...I'll check to see if folks are actually doing this.

What kinds of stats would you like to see?

I'm fine with copying in a static stats box or something, but I don't think we should ping the server(s) every time someone refreshes or loads a forum page...I'll check on it, though. Perhaps daily "player count" or "death" or "red vs. blue" stats would be fun!

But, if you need daily shots www.staremagazine.com has xml feeds. I have them on my site as well: www.klumperskave.com/kavemate/

I was kind of thinking more along the line of forum mods that made users happier (we already have a few administration mods)...

...it would be interesting to try to link HHH game server status to the forum, somehow, but 1) people don't always use the same username in both the forum and in-game and 2) mapping the game stats from the server to the forum database would be fairly difficult...probably not worth the payoff.

Or is it? :?:

You know, i didn't know the new URL for the forums, and did a search for 'catkins'. Its interesting to find stuff.

I didn't know that you were a camper RenX? I mean "Huntington Unit 2086. Camper for many years during the early-mid 1980's, mostly 2 week sessions." :D

It's true! :) That was from a camp I went to a looooooong time ago. Great place.

Careful how you ego search my FULL name. There's an actor with the same name -- and he moved on from the "Blue Lagoon" to, shall we say, less savory film venues.

People used to e-mail me for photos...I almost sent a few out.

You can see why his "second" acting career was probably a decent choice, I guess.

Right up there w/ Battlefield Earth (remember that!) that movie was truly "Travolting" :D

Don't forget "Showgirls" either, hard to believe that movie came from the director of "Basic Instinct" and "Total Recall" and the writer of "Jagged Edge" and "Telling Lies in America"

Of course bad movies far out number good ones so blue lagoon has a lot of competition. :D

It enjoys its perch squarely near the top of the "B Movie" category.
