|
|
Ok, here's the deal.
I just got a new computer, decent system with a decent video card. I loaded Windows 7 on it, but there seems to be a problem. When I boot the machine with the ATI HD 2600XT vid card, I get no POST. The system will show black screen for about 45 seconds, then shows the Windows 7 loading screen. If I boot with onboard video, I get POST and can change BIOS settings (vital to any system).
The ATI card displays great when its running good, and games run fine (well, been having a bit of trouble with Dead Space. Won't even install without shutting down the computer).
To get to BIOS with the ATI card installed, I have to open the computer and remove the card, and reboot with just onboard video. I can see this being a problem when I want to dual boot the system (which i DO want to do) in the future.
Anyone have any experience with this? _________________

Could be a couple things but first I would go in the bios to integreted peripherals and set it to check for pci or pci-e first. _________________ Acidsplaypenn.com

I've done that. Actually, the only way it will even use the PCIe card is to set that to init first. If I leave it as On board vid, it will not go to the PCIe card at all.
Basically, my installation of this card was like this:
1. Install Windows using on-board vid.
2. Install ATI drivers, shut down system.
3. Put in ATI card, restart (Still in on-board video mode)
4. Allow system to detect and install card.
5. Restart system, change BIOS option to PCIe init first.
6. Restart system. _________________

It only displays it in on-board vid mode. Haven't checked to see if the bios is set to quickboot.
Once that card is in, i get nothing for about 45 seconds, then Win7 boot screen. _________________

No one? This is really beginning to annoy me. I've searched high and low for answers but no one online seems to be having the same trouble.
Sometimes if I have to hard boot my system, I get nothing at all, and i have to open the case, take out the card, boot to on-board, shut down the system, replace the card, restart the system. _________________

Set it to boot PCI video first, not PCIe. Mine was doing the same thing, disabled onboard graphics in bios and set to boot to PCI not PCIe _________________ Acidsplaypenn.com

You magnificent bastard. I saw that option there, but I thought .. "I'm not using a PCI vid card... that option doesn't apply"... Never even thought to try it.
Now I get POST and everything.
Thanks a lot. If I could hug you, I would. I don't drink, but I'll buy you a beer if I'm EVER in PA. _________________

Actually the computer was a hand me down.
My pastor's dad had a friend who built 3 of them for a project. The project is finished, and now the dude's wife just wanted them out of the house. So he gave them away.
250 GB HD
ECS RS 485 M1 mobo
ATI HD 2600XT vid card
2 GB RAM
Not bad for a free computer
Can't tell you the last time I actually bought/built a computer. All of mine have been perfectly good systems that my cousin (bless her soul) threw out because she bought a new one, thinking that the old one was out of date/had a virus/ some other weird thing... (she'd get a pop up telling her that she had a virus... ) etc... so, being that she already has a new one, i just take the old one and re-format. _________________

Spyware and rootkits have sold more new computers in the last 5 years than we'd care to imagine.
Makes you wonder who is really writing those nasties... |
